Nature update - doves are aquadynamic
Sep. 18th, 2020 05:26 pmThis afternoon, I was peacefully in my sitting-room working, while the Beastie Boys lurked outside by the swimming-pool. There was very loud thump, and a splash, as somehow a dove hit the roof (no idea what the circumstances were), and then fell into the pool. I rushed outside to rescue it from drowning, as the Beastie Boys rushed round the pool to see if they could catch it and kill it before it drowned, but it flapped its wings madly, and managed a water take-off with great elan despite not being remotely an aquatic bird. It got to the nearest bush, and then took off for a safer altitude before Bus-stop Cat could make a jump for it.
I was very impressed, and the Beastie Boys were very disappointed. There was much unhappy yowling, and trotting round the pool in case it suddenly fell back in.
